Grand Forks woman recalls historic Pearl Harbor attack on anniversaryToday marks the 68th anniversary of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor and a Grand Forks, N.D., woman had a front-row seat to that historic attack.
Agnes Shurr was a nurse on a hospital ship that was anchored in Pearl Harbor.
She tells WDAY's "The Christopher Gabriel Program" that her ship was about two blocks away from other ships the Japanese bombed and sank.
Shurr says she was asleep on the ship when the attack began and was awakened by the explosions.
Despite all that was going on all around them during the attack, Shurr says there was no sense of chaos on her ship.
She says she and her 13-fellow nurses relied on their training and simply went to work.
Shurr says she still thinks about what she and everyone else went through –Dec. 7, 1941 – from time-to-time.
