Researchers pinpoint AgCam glitchGRAND FORKS, N.D. — University of North Dakota researchers have pinpointed problems with the AgCam at the International Space Station but the glitch is not expected to be fixed until next summer.
The sophisticated camera built at UND was blasted into space aboard the space shuttle Endeavor in November 2008. It was to send back high-resolution pictures and information about the Earth that could be used by farmers and scientists, but it had technical problems.
Project manager Doug Olsen says that after a lot of troubleshooting, the problem was isolated to an electronic box. He says the box was returned to Earth on the last space shuttle flight in September and UND students and faculty will be trying to repair it.
Olsen says he hopes the work will be done in time for another shuttle flight next summer.
