702 Communications lays off workers, restructuresFifteen employees of Moorhead-based 702 Communications lost their jobs today as part of a company restructuring.
The layoffs represent one-third of the 45 people who were employed by the 10-year-old company, said Brian Crommett, 702 Communications sales and service manager.
The company’s Wahpeton, N.D., retail office was also closed on Tuesday, he said.
“We made a decision to refocus our business on what we did best,” Crom-mett said.
702 Communications, which recently acquired Internet provider GoMoorhead, will now focus its efforts on wholesale business to other large service providers, GoMoorhead and business clients.
“What we’re not going to be doing going forward is adding residential customers,” he said. “We’re not going to do telephone or Internet for new residential customers.”
702 will continue to provide service to its current telephone and Internet customers in Fargo-Moorhead and Wahpeton-Breckenridge markets, said Crommett.
