Trip to France dream come trueOn behalf of the West Fargo students who traveled to France this summer, we would like to thank the community for their amazing generosity to make the students’ dreams come true. They had an incredible time in France – even life-changing experiences for some of the students. The trip broadened their perspective of the world and deepened their awareness of another culture’s ideals, traditions, social issues and language nuances.
What a great gift this was to our youth! To thank you, each student had a dozen of the names and addresses of the donors with them in France and sent each one a personal postcard from various places along the trip. They also organized a volunteer day at The Arc and the Great Plains Food Bank to give back to the community.
We would like to again express gratitude to our local media: The Forum, and all of the news and radio stations, who featured our story and raised an awareness of our predicament. Because of you, Tom Kenville heard about our dilemma and selflessly began his fast-paced campaign to raise money to send the kids to France.
All the bills were paid, and the students were yet again surprised upon their departure to receive some supplemental spending money. There is currently $4,200 of the funds raised remaining, which will be donated to the West Fargo Dollars for Scholars program.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you so much. The smiles that brighten the students’ faces as they recall their trip says it all.
Thibert is a teacher of French; Clark is principal of West Fargo High School.
