High school wrestling: Lehmann returns to North Dakota

Standout wrestler Tyler Lehmann is back in North Dakota after several seasons at Minnesota prep powerhouse Apple Valley.

However, he’ll be back in the Land of 10,000 Lakes soon enough.

Lehmann, who is now a senior at West Fargo High School, signed to wrestle at the University of Minnesota.

“I really liked the coaches and I know a lot of the guys that go there now,” said Lehmann, who was in the Fargo North program until leaving his freshman year for Apple Valley.

Lehmann won back-to-back Minnesota state titles at 171 pounds as a sophomore and junior at Apple Valley.

He was 49-0 last year en route to the championship.

Lehmann said he will compete at 189 pounds for the Packers.

“I chose to come back to spend another year with my family,” Lehmann said. “I didn’t want the eighth grade to be the last year with them. … I just want to go undefeated this year and keep improving to get ready for the next level.”
