U2 will play to a sober crowd at TCF Bank Stadium

MINNEAPOLIS - When the world’s most famous Irishmen come to the new TCF Bank Stadium next year, fans won’t be able to toast them with a Guinness, or any other beer or cocktails.

That’s because the University of Minnesota has decided that the U2 show will be dry, which is consistent with sporting events in the new on-campus stadium.

Associate athletic director Phil Esten said the band and its concert producer agreed with the decision. He said U2 has run into similar restrictions at other on-campus venues.

When asked if the ban would extend backstage, Esten said he assumes it will.

The band’s “360” tour is set to arrive at the stadium on June 27, 2010. Tickets go on sale Saturday through Ticketmaster and range in price from $32 to $250.
