Minnesota 9-man football playoffs: Stephen-Argyle dominates Orr

Stephen-Argyle Central is going back to the Metrodome, and they used a familiar recipe to do it – a nice and tidy blowout.

The Storm racked up 20 points in the first quarter and rode the wave to a

45-14 drubbing of Orr in the 9-man quarterfinals at the Fargodome on Thursday.

“It’s certainly a great experience, no matter how many times you get there,” Storm coach Mark Kroulik said. “You just want a chance to get there, and it’s something to get back there.”

Stephen-Argyle won five state titles in a row from 2003-07, but that string was snapped last year when the Storm lost to Kittson County Central in the Section 8 title game.

Missing last year’s Prep Bowl was all the motivation they needed.

“This team is unique, and that’s been a motivation all year,” said running back Jamison St. Germain. “We have a lot of good leadership, and we knew that was something we could do, and it feels incredible to get back.”

St. Germain tallied 110 rushing yards, 125 receiving yards, and scored a pair of touchdowns through the air in the win.

On the day, the Storm rushed for 311 yards. Evan Schindele had 64 yards on the ground and scored three touchdowns.

“Running is our strength, and that’s what we like to do,” Kroulik said. “They had some good football players, but Jamison was running very well.”

John Safranski did a number on the Braves through the air, too. The SAC quarterback was

5-for-6 through the air for 180 yards and three touchdowns.

“We just keep climbing the ladder,” St. Germain said. “Every game was a step, and now we keep climbing.

“We feel like we keep getting better and better.”

Stephen-Argyle takes on the winner of today’s quarterfinal matchup between Clinton-Graceville-Beardsley and Verndale. Those teams square off at 7 p.m. at Big Cat Stadium in Morris, Minn.
