Volunteer escorts did excellent jobLast weekend marked the end of the third year of 40 Days for Life. Red River Women’s Clinic reached out to the community and recruited and trained volunteer escorts during this vigil. These escorts showed up each day that patients were seen, often outnumbering the protesters. The escorts were there to provide safety and support for both the patients and staff entering the clinic.
We do not view the 40 Days campaign as a negative, but instead have found many positive rewards. What we experienced during the vigil was an outpouring of community support. We had daily calls, e-mails and letters supporting our work.
We had random community members come in our front door and make donations or just to tell us that they support our clinic. We had three vanloads of supporters drive up from the Twin Cities to escort.
We wish to thank each and every one of our volunteers for their efforts during the past six weeks. Patients and staff alike were moved by your support. Your dedication, commitment, joyful presence and positive attitudes on the front lines are to be commended. You made a difference in many women’s lives, and it is deeply appreciated.
