Re-elect Voxland and Winterfeldt

I note in a Forum article that Moorhead mayoral challenger Travis Reimche says, “There are always places budgets can be streamlined,” but that he’s not prepared to say where until after he’s elected and has a chance to learn the ins and outs of city finances.

Two thoughts followed:

1) The easy cuts have already been made.

After years of cutbacks in state support, there are not a lot of simple fixes. What’s left to cut are all important services – police, fire, engineering (think flood control!), etc. Yes, there are always places to make cuts, but each cut means people go without important services.

2) When times are tough and likely to get tougher, I’m not ready to hand the reins over to someone who’ll let me know how he’ll deal with difficulties only after he’s elected. I’m going to stick with the team who’s been working through the tough times, who already have the experience to know what’s most critical, and who’ve proven they have the best interests of the people of Moorhead at heart. I’m voting for Mayor Mark Voxland and council member Lauri Winterfeldt.
