Chancellor Bill Goetz urges NDSU staff to ‘stay the course’Chancellor Bill Goetz is encouraging North Dakota State University staff to “stay the course” and keep the momentum moving.
More than 50 staff members attended an open forum with Goetz today to discuss the transition to a new interim president and the search for a permanent president.
He’ll hold similar meetings with faculty and students this afternoon.
“We must stay the course,” Goetz said. “We will get through this and we will be better for it.”
President Joseph Chapman is resigning Jan. 2. Richard Hanson will become interim president on Dec. 1, Goetz said.
Goetz told staff he’ll be seeking their representation for a presidential search committee. The committee, which will likely have 16 members, will include faculty, staff, students and community members, Goetz said.
His goal is to have a new president in place on July 1 or shortly thereafter, Goetz said. However, finding the best person for the job will be more important than the date, he said.
Vance Olson, president of NDSU’s staff senate, said employees appreciate the communication from Goetz during this transition.
“It’s a time of uncertainty and it’s emotional,” said Olson, an electronic technician in the heating plant.
However, knowing that an interim is starting soon, “has lifted our spirits and given us hope,” Olson said.
