Weekend Watch: Nick Flynn, Maxine Hong Kingston and Annette Gordon-Reed
Bittersweet reminders of this spring’s flooding come back today and Friday in the forms of two literary events postponed because of the disaster. Nick Flynn rolls on to Minnesota State University Moorhead’s campus today for a 4 p.m. discussion on “Bewilderment and Transformation.” At 8 p.m. the poet and author of the memoir “… Suck City” returns to Room 101 of the Comstock Memorial Union for a reading. Friday it’s Concordia College’s turn. Minnesota Public Radio’s Kerri Miller hosts National Book Award winners Maxine Hong Kingston (“The Woman Warrior” and “China Men”) and Annette Gordon-Reed (“The Hemingses of Monticello: An American Family”). The authors will read and discuss the works at 7:30 p.m. in the Knutson Campus Centrum. Both events are free. For more information on Flynn’s reading, call (218) 477-4681.
