Suspect still sought in fatal Bowman hit and runBOWMAN, N.D. — Investigators are still looking for a suspect in a hit and run that killed a Bowman woman three weeks ago.
Highway Patrol Capt. Tony Huck says he's somewhat surprised that no one has turned themselves in, though it is possible the driver did not realize he or she had hit someone.
Forty-two-year-old Belinda Kay Messer was trying to cross U.S. Highway 85 at a city intersection the night of Sept. 25 when she was struck. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities say the vehicle that hit her might have been a white Freightliner semi towing a flatbed trailer. Bowman Police Chief Charles Headley says video from a nearby gas station has been given to the Highway Patrol.
Huck says the investigation will remain open. Messer's sister, DeAnne, says family members are coping as best they can.
