Fargo Fire Department to host ceremony FridayThe Fargo Fire Department has scheduled an awards ceremony at 2 p.m. Friday at fire headquarters, 637 NP Ave.
A Fargo firefighter will receive a commendation for spotting and helping fight a fire while off duty during the 2009 flood, and four citizens will be presented with White-Hartman Awards for assisting at the scene of an emergency.
The White-Hartman Award was founded in honor of the first two Fargo firefighters to die in the line of duty.
The ceremony coincides with Fire Prevention Week, which runs through Friday. The Fargo Fire Department encourages residents to plan a fire escape route in their homes and check smoke detectors and fire extinguishers to ensure they are working properly.
Tours of the fire headquarters will also be given through October. To schedule a tour, call Bonnie Johnson at (701) 241-1540.
