West Fargo commissioners to discuss future of Main Avenue bridge project

WEST FARGO — City commissioners here will discuss tonight what options they have to replace the Main Avenue bridge at the Sheyenne River.

The North Dakota Department of Transportation planned to replace the bridge with a box culvert during construction this summer – but officials put off that part of the project after problems with unstable soil in the river.

Commissioners now have the option to either go ahead with the bridge construction next summer or wait until 2015, during the third phase of the Main Avenue reconstruction project west of the bridge, West Fargo City Administrator Jim Brownlee said.

The recommendation to the commission will be to wait until phase three to avoid another consecutive summer of construction on Main Avenue, Brownlee said.

“The state will still plan and design it, but it’s just when does the city want to have it put in,” Brownlee said.

The commission meets at 5:30 p.m. in the commission chambers of West Fargo City Hall, 800 4th Ave East. The meeting is open to the public.
