‘Cans for Cash’ month kicks off in FargoFargo Mayor Dennis Walaker kicked off this year’s “Cans for Cash Challenge” on Thursday morning at Minnkota Recycling, 901 4th Ave. N.
The “Cans for Cash” recycling program is sponsored by the U.S. Conference of Mayors. Fargo will compete against other similar-sized cities to recycle the most aluminum cans during the month of October.
The challenge will present 12 $5,000 awards to participating municipalities and four $2,500 awards to affiliates. In 2007, the city of Fargo won for its “Cans for Fans” NDSU challenge.
This year’s focus is the “Got No Milk” program, which helps provide morning milk for low-income elementary students. Minnkota Recycling will match penny per pound for aluminum cans collected in Fargo during the month of October. All proceeds will be donated.
Donations may be dropped off at Fargo recycling drop sites and at Minnkota recycling redemption centers.
