Great pumpkin patch rises again after fire

BISMARCK – Papa’s Pumpkin Patch has come back from the fire.

An April fire destroyed a building and equipment at the popular family attraction, causing damage estimated at more than $100,000. Operator Dave Pearce says neighbors and friends stepped up to help “patch up the patch.”

A new building has been named the “Phoenix” building, in a reference to a mythical bird that rises from the ashes.

And Pearce says the area has had plenty of moisture to help the pumpkins grow.

If the weather holds, he expects the patch to produce more than 35,000 pumpkins this year.

Owners of the patch say about 40,000 people visited the patch last fall.
