Popular Bismarck restaurant closing

BISMARCK (AP) - A popular restaurant on the Missouri River in Bismarck is closing.

Meriwether's owner Jamie Irey blames a persistent road closure nearby for slowing business. Saturday is the restaurant's last day.

The city closed part of River Road last summer for five weeks for work on Bismarck's water treatment plant. This summer, slumping asphalt led to the closing of the road.

Irey says last winter also was tough on the restaurant, with record snowfall and bitter cold keeping people away. She says the recession also has played a role.

The city of Bismarck owns the building that houses Meriwether's and leases it to the Fort Abraham Lincoln Foundation, which subleases to Meriwether's.
