Feds take Gilby bank robbery suspect

GRAND FORKS, N.D. - A man accused of stealing a vehicle used in a bank robbery in the northeastern North Dakota town of Gilby is now a federal prisoner.

U.S. marshals have put a hold on Clifton Patterson, who is being held in the Grand Forks County jail, and State's Attorney Peter Welte says he has dropped the car theft charge in state district court.

In the FBI's affidavit filed to obtain a search warrant of Patterson's Grand Forks apartment this summer, agents said they believed Patterson was one of the two men seen on security video brandishing guns inside Gilby's Bremer Bank on May 26.

The FBI has not yet released information on possible federal bank robbery charges against Patterson, who was arrested this summer in Mississippi, where he used to live.
