College Volleyball Preview: MSU MOORHEAD

The Dragons should be strong at the net with five hitters who are 6 foot and taller, including 6-1 senior middle hitter Mary Sussenguth.

Sussenguth led the team in blocks last season with 1.02 blocks per game. Outside hitter Laura Tvrdik, a 6-0 senior, ranked second on the team last year with 2.83 kills per game.

“You are going to see a strong hitting team,” Dragons coach Tammy Blake-Kath said.

Sussenguth, Tvrdik and junior setter Leigh Splittstoesser are the three returning starters for MSUM.

Junior middle hitter Kristen Kleven, a 6-2 middle hitter, is a transfer from North Dakota State.

Blake-Kath said outside hitter Heidi Lensing has the potential to be freshman of the year in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.

The Dragons are

a preseason pick to finish seventh in the NSIC.

“We’re kind of inexperienced in a lot of ways,” Blake-Kath said. “So it’s kind of just how fast we learn. ... We’re that dark horse team that you just never know. I think that we have a lot of potential.”
