Weekend Watch: DaleFest, Nest Fest and Jass Festival
With 10,000 Lakes Fest, Blues Fest and WE Fest things of the recent past, music fans in Fargo-Moorhead have three more area fests to test.
The first of the fests starts Friday night in front of the Hotel Donaldson, 101 Broadway, with DaleFest, the establishment’s tribute to manager Dale Powers. Gates to the closed-off section of the First Avenue North block of Broadway open at 7 p.m. with Minneapolis funk band Roster McCabe starting some time after. The real show will be local favorites Post-Traumatic Funk Syndrome headlining. There is a $7 cover for this ID-only show. (701) 478-1000.
The beat goes on Saturday night at the Nestor Tavern’s Nest Fest, 1001 NP Ave., Fargo. The ID-only show starts at 5 p.m. with sets by Mel James Trio, The Fillers, Drummond Blend, Hyentyte, Jon Wayne and the Pain and Stonewing, featuring Eric Wilson, former bassist for Sublime. There’s a $10 cover for this indoor/outdoor show.
The weekend comes to a swinging close Sunday in Island Park, Fargo, with the 15th Jass Festival. The free, all-ages showcase of area jazz talent kicks off at 3 with the Jazz Nickel Combo, followed by the Jordan Christianson Trio before ending with the big bang of the Jass Festival Big Band. While this show is free and all-ages, fans are asked to bring a nonperishable food or hygiene item for the Dorothy Day Food Pantry.
