Gas leak prompts Moorhead firefighters to respond in second incident this weekMOORHEAD – Another gas leak had firefighters going door to door to alert residents in a south Moorhead neighborhood this afternoon.
Firefighters were dispatched at about 3:55 p.m. to a 2-inch gas line that was hit and not pinched off at Rivershore Drive South and River Haven Road.
It was not immediately clear who was responsible for the leak.
Midcontinent Communications suspended installation of new underground cable in Moorhead Tuesday after a contractor working for the company cut a gas line.
Moorhead Fire Chief Joel Hewitt said digging wouldn’t resume until after the company held a safety meeting with its contractors today.
Hewitt said he and other city officials are concerned by the number of gas line cuts Midcontinent has been involved with this summer.
A gas leak Tuesday morning in the area of 40th Avenue South and Oak Circle was quickly pinched off, but not before authorities evacuated several homes.
