Jazz singer Sony Holland returns to FargoSony Holland, a native of Fargo and now a jazz singer based in California, will return to Fargo to perform with the Jazz Arts Big Band at 7 p.m. Sept. 19 at The Venue, 2525 9th Ave. S., Fargo.
She will also present free master classes at 7 p.m. Sept. 15 at Trollwood in Moorhead and at 2 p.m. Sept. 18 at Fargo North High School.
Holland graduated from Fargo North, performed with Trollwood and studied voice at Concordia College.
For the past six years, she has made San Francisco her base where she performs at area jazz venues and festivals. She has also made three extended performance tours in Asia and has performed at renowned clubs like the Blue Note in New York City, Catalina’s in Los Angeles and Yoshi’s Jazz Club in Oakland, Calif., and San Francisco.
Holland has recorded three CDs and often donates her talents to benefit concerts for a variety of causes including AIDS relief and leukemia research.
Her recent shows have featured new material that expands on her repertoire of standards to include compositions by Rufus Waingwright, Bob Dylan, Carla Bruni, Elton John and her husband, Jerry Holland.
