18-year-old steals vehicle, flees Moorhead police on foot before arrest

An 18-year-old man crashed a stolen Chevy Blazer and led Moorhead police on a foot pursuit this morning before being arrested.

Lucas K. Wilkinson, no permanent address, is being held for felony fleeing in a motor vehicle, possession of stolen property and motor vehicle theft, as well as several misdemeanor charges.

Sgt. Steve Larsen said police were responding to a report of a stolen vehicle in south Moorhead this morning when Larsen noticed the dark-colored SUV being driven by Wilkinson.

As Larsen pulled in behind the vehicle, Wilkinson began to flee, beginning a short pursuit, at about 9:20 a.m.

He crashed the vehicle in the Sunmart Foods parking lot at 2605 8th St.

S., Moorhead. Wilkinson then ran into the grocery store and out the back door.

Officers briefly chased Wilkinson along Eighth Street and the Interstate 94 interchange before he was apprehended, Larsen said.

Wilkinson did cause damage when he crashed the stolen vehicle, though Larsen said he didn’t know how many vehicles he struck. There were no injuries.

Wilkinson is being held at the Clay County Jail

Larsen said there have been other vehicle break-ins in the vicinity of where the Blazer was taken, and police are currently investigating whether Wilkinson may have been involved in those incidents.
