Health Integrated board elects former Blues president

Mike Unhjem, former president and chief executive officer of Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Dakota, has been unanimously elected to the board of Health Integrated Inc.

Health Integrated is a provider of health management solutions, with locations in Tampa, Fla., Pleasanton, Calif., and Lynnwood, Wash.

Unhjem served at the helm of BCBS from September 1991 to March 2009. He was dismissed as CEO in March amid public furor over a sales reward trip to a luxury resort in the Grand Cayman Islands.

While heading up BCBS, Unhjem served as chairman of the boards for many health care management companies, including Noridian Administrative Services, Noridian Insurance Services, Lincoln Mutual Life and Casualty Insurance Co., North Dakota Caring Founding, HealthPAC and TriWest Healthcare Alliance. He was chairman of the national BCBS Association Board of Directors in 2001-02.

Shan Padda, chairman and chief executive officer of Health Integrated, praised Unhjem in a news release.

“Mike is a well-known industry veteran and public servant with rich experience across the full spectrum of health care,” Padda stated.

“Mike brings an enviable track record as a force of positive change in health care,” Steven Wigginton, president of Health Integrated, stated in the release.
