Writer ignorant about Al Franken

Tom Kovach showed his ignorance on the subject of Sen. Al Franken (letter, July 14). “Carpetbagger” he is not. His family came from the East Coast to St. Louis Park, a suburb of Minneapolis, when he was a youngster, and he graduated from Minnesota schools. So Kovach’s statement that Franken came “to visit sometimes” shows how little he has read.

Franken graduated from Harvard University with a political science degree (cum laude, no less). He is a brilliant mathematician, a successful author, radio personality, actor, and, yes, formerly a successful comedy writer and comic who won several Emmys. Besides the above, this “creep” has been married more than 32 years to the same woman, and his two children are college-educated, working people.

Norm Coleman, on the other hand, is another lawyer/politician, who lied when he said he would pull his untruthful ads against Franken off the television, but they continued to run them.

Pundits say Coleman is politically ambitious. Forget the Senate – he’s now got his eye on the governorship. I’m sure he’ll be able to count on Kovach’s vote.
