West Fargo School Board is a rubber stampI am neither a parent nor grandparent of any student in the West Fargo School District. I am, however, a resident, taxpayer and voter in the school district and quite upset over the recent action by the West Fargo School Board regarding Jeremy Murphy.
Murphy is qualified to teach English and remain as the yearbook adviser. It is obvious from all the support he has received from the students, fellow faculty members and the parents that he is held in high regard. Finally, under his tutorship, The Packer was recipient of awards and recognition.
So why was Murphy fired? He has a “difference in philosophy” with administrators. What does that mean? We will never know because the School Board will hide behind its self-imposed policy of not discussing personnel action.
The School Board’s first priority is to ensure that the students receive the best education possible. That includes the importance of freedom of the press. If some administrators get their nose out of joint, so be it. I believe it was Harry Truman who said, “If you can’t stand the heat, get out of the kitchen.”
I hope the parents in this school district get together and find other citizens to run for the School Board.
Citizens are more concerned with the education of the students than rubber-stamping the actions of the school administration.
