Milk production in N.D. down 8 percent quarter over quarterFARGO, N.D. -- Milk production in North Dakota during April, May and June totaled 98 million pounds, down 8.4 percent from the second quarter of 2008.
The Agriculture Department says the average number of milk cows during the quarter stood at 23,000, down 3,000 from a year earlier and down 2,000 from the previous quarter.
Milk produced per cow was 4,260 pounds, compared with 4,100 pounds last year and 3,920 pounds the previous quarter.
Nationwide, milk production for the three months totaled 48.8 billion pounds, almost unchanged from 2008.
