Man reaches plea deal in Valley City pharmacy theftVALLEY CITY, N.D. – A former Valley City pharmacy manager accused of embezzlement has been ordered to repay $42,400 to owners of the drug store.
Jerome Schmidt had pleaded not guilty to felony theft of property.
Barnes County State’s Attorney Brad Cruff said the charge will be dropped under a plea deal that requires the 58-year-old Schmidt to repay the money by the end of July and to keep his record clean for 18 months.
Schmidt said he has already written a check to the company.
He told Valley City’s KOVC radio that he made mistakes and wants to put the case behind him.
Authorities accused Schmidt of embezzling from Valley Drug, which is owned by Thrifty White Drug, between August 2003 and last August.
Cruff said pharmacy owners supported the plea deal.
