Portraits: Diane Fitzpatrick

Diane Fitzpatrick reads from “The American Flag” on Thursday during a “Life on the Plains” event at the Fort Abercrombie State Historical Site in Abercrombie, N.D.

She has worked there as a customer service representative for just a month as part of a training program with Experience Works. It is for workers 55 or older who need to train for new fields.

“I’ve always done factory work,” Fitzpatrick says. Most recently that was with Integrity Windows in Fargo and Ro-Banks in Wahpeton, N.D., but she’s also worked in California and her home state of New Jersey.

“I’ve always kind of enjoyed my factory jobs, but they did get hard after a time. The last one was the hardest,” Fitzpatrick says.

Now an Abercrombie resident and her sights set on a new career, Fitzpatrick prepares to start yet another chapter.
