‘Minnesota nice’ gone overboard?

I hope the recent letters and editorial cartoon suggesting that Vernon Allen’s use of deadly force was excessive are simply a case of “Minnesota nice” gone overboard.

If a stranger comes into your home and refuses to leave, they don’t need to be talked to calmly, as one writer suggested. If they make a grab for your weapon, they are a threat. This is not about protecting one’s possessions. It is about protecting one’s self and one’s family. I believe most Americans would still consider that a sacred right.

Our Founding Fathers did not guarantee us the right to bear arms so we could defend ourselves with a broom or a rolling pin.
