North Dakota plans July Fourth sobriety checkpoint

VALLEY CITY, N.D. – The North Dakota Highway Patrol will conduct a sobriety checkpoint at an undisclosed location in Barnes County on the Fourth of July.

“Due to the increased traffic during the Fourth of July holiday weekend, our goal is to ensure that families arrive at their holiday destinations safely,” Lt. Eldon Mehrer said in a news release.

As of Monday, there had been 51 fatal traffic crashes in North Dakota, with 22 crashes, or 43 percent, involving alcohol, the release said.
