Bomb squad to look into explosion outside Amenia barAMENIA, N.D. – Bomb squad members will take a closer look at the remnants of what appears to be a homemade firework that exploded this morning outside the Amenia bar, Cass County Sheriff’s Capt. Rick Majerus said.
A person across the street from the bar called authorities at 3:52 a.m., saying it sounded like a bomb went off and their house shook. The caller reported seeing people standing outside and hearing their vehicles leave.
“All we have is kind of like an empty plastic bag with the remnants of some kind of powder in it,” Majerus said. “(It) didn’t really do any damage to the road or anything. It just made a loud noise. So it’s probably a homemade firecracker type thing.”
Bomb squad members will inspect the evidence.
“Hopefully they can identify what it was and then we’ll just follow up on the investigation, try and do some interviews and see if we can locate the responsible,” Majerus said.
“I mean, if it’s fireworks, that’s one thing, they aren’t illegal,” he added. “But if, you know, it’s homemade stuff, it’s possible that it could be illegal depending on what it is.”
Empty beer cans were found scattered in the area around the bag, he said.
