Hjemkomst Festival rocks Scandinavian spirit

Finns, Danes, Swedes, Norwegians and Icelanders have a simple message this year: Scandinavia rocks.

“Nordic Spirit Rocks” is the theme of the 32nd Annual Scandinavian Hjemkomst Festival, manifesting itself in rock music, geology and heirloom rocking chairs. Finland is the featured country.

Held Friday through June 28 at the Hjemkomst Center in Moorhead, the festival features a variety of musical performances, including the teenage Finnish band KEHO and the more traditional sounds of Kanteleen Soittajat kantele group.

Scandinavian food will abound, with cooking demonstrations by Beatrice Ojakangas.

Other festival events include films, dance presentations, games and the comedic Suomalainen Sisters.

Admission is $10 in advance or $12 at the door, with youths ages 19 and under admitted free.
