Visit a wildlife refuge in the area

There are more than 500 National Wildlife Refuges throughout the United States. One of these is the Tamarac National Wildlife Refuge northeast of Detroit Lakes, Minn., about an hour- and-a-half drive from the Fargo-Moorhead area.

From now through Oct. 18, there are a number of activities and presentations that individuals and families may participate in, not only during the workweek, but also on the weekends.

It’s a great way to spend the day learning about America’s bountiful natural heritage. Enjoy a hike, take a tour, drive the Blackbird Auto Route, watch a movie or participate in a presentation.

For more information and an online summer program schedule, visit the Tamarac Interpretive Association Web site at www.

tamaracfriends.org.

Volunteers and refuge staff are ready and willing to make your visit positive and educational.
