New Ulm Cathedral ends Hawley’s year

CHASKA, Minn. — A six-run fifth inning by New Ulm Cathedral ended Hawley’s state baseball tournament early.

The Greyhounds’ big inning set up a 13-1, five-inning victory over the Nuggets in the third-place game of the Class 1A tourney at Chaska Athletic Park on Friday.

Derek Wilfahrt and Craig Fischer each had two hits and two RBIs for New Ulm Cathedral, and Brock Sieve was 3-for-3 at the plate with three RBIs.

Hawley was led by Matt Guida’s 3-for-3 effort in the loss.

Hawley finishes its season 15-6.
