Minot base getting new unitMINOT, N.D. - The Minot Air Force Base is getting a nuclear weapons maintenance unit with about a dozen people, starting this summer.
The state's congressional delegation says Minot was chosen over four other bases for the headquarters of the 778th Munitions Maintenance Group.
The unit is to work with munitions squadrons at Vandenburg Air Force Base in California, the F.E. Warren Air Force Base in Wyoming and the Malmstrom Air Force Base n Montana.
The Air Force announced last year that the Minot base will get a new B-52 bomber squadron. About 1,000 airmen are to begin arriving later this year.
