Minnesota state high school baseball: Hawley falls in semisCHASKA, Minn. – Hawley’s second trip to Minnesota’s Class 1A state baseball tournament is going a lot like its first.
The Nuggets lost in Thursday’s semifinals to MACCRAY, 7-1, and will head to the third place game.
Hawley placed third at last year’s state tournament.
The Wolverines jumped out to a four-run lead after the first two innings and never looked back.
Hawley got two hits apiece from Andrew Regnier, Erik Rosenfeldt and Aaron Schenk, but could only push one run across.
Tyler Dammann had a pair of hits and a pair of RBIs to lead MACCRAY, which takes on Wabasha-Kellogg in today’s Class 1A championship game.
The Nuggets advanced to the semifinals behind a 4-0 win over Northern Freeze in the first round.
Beau Sorenson was sharp on the mound for Hawley, striking out six and walking none in the complete-game shutout.
Matt Guida was 2-for-3 with a home run and a pair of RBIs in the victory.
The Nuggets (16-4) will take on New Ulm Cathedral in the third-place game at 2:30 p.m.
