Hermanson moves on to 800 finalsFAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – North Dakota State senior Laura Hermanson broke her own school record in the 800 meters to advance to today’s final at the 2009 NCAA track and field championships.
Hermanson clocked in at 2:03.19, breaking the record she set earlier this year (2:03.21).
The Burnsville, Minn., native finished second in her heat behind Tennessee’s Phoebe Wright. Hermanson had the lead going into the last 200 meters, but Wright used a strong kick down the stretch to take first.
Hermanson posted the third-fastest semifinal time out of both heats. The top three finishers in each heat, along with the next three fastest runners, advanced to the final.
