Security steps taken at Fargo abortion clinicEscorts have been posted outside the Red River Women’s Clinic in downtown Fargo, North Dakota’s only abortion clinic, following stepped-up protests.
The security precautions have been taken following the murder of a Kansas doctor who performed late-term abortions.
Escorts were used at the clinic for the first time in its 11-year history last fall, during a “Forty Days for Life” protest, said Tammi Kromenaker, the clinic’s director.
“We are getting threatening and harassing phone calls all the time,” she said.
One protester carried a sign that said, “Tiller deserved it,” a reference to the slain Kansas doctor who performed abortions.
Protests have stepped up at abortion clinics across the country, Kromenaker said. Providers fear violence.
“There is a whole network of people who want to shut down abortion clinics by any means necessary,” she said.
