Williston voters extend sales tax

WILLISTON, N.D. - Voters in Williston have decided to extend the city's 1-cent sales tax until the year 2020.

Unofficial results from Tuesday's election show 513 votes in favor, or 70 percent, and 229 against it.

Mayor Ward Koeser says the city needs the revenue to work on economic development and infrastructure needs.

The tax had been set to expire in 2010. Officials say it has brought in about $23 million since it was first approved in 1991.
