MacFarlane resigns as Spuds girls coachJim MacFarlane still loved going to practice, but he still made a tough decision.
After 10 years leading the Spuds, MacFarlane has resigned as head coach of Moorhead’s girls hockey team.
“It was about time,” MacFarlane said. “It takes time and effort to be a good coach, time and effort to be a good teacher, and time and effort to be a good spouse and parent.
“I wasn’t doing a good job in all of those, so something had to give.”
MacFarlane amassed a record of 186-81-5, and led Moorhead to the state tournament in 2001, 2002 and 2006.
“We had some talent over the years, there is no question,” MacFarlane said. “I never worried about wins and losses. We just wanted kids to get better. That other stuff came with it.”
MacFarlane will continue to assist Eric Tollefson with the boys golf team. He didn’t rule out returning to the rink in the future.
“I might be back someday, when my kids are grown up. Who knows?” MacFarlane said. “I’m just thankful for the good kids and good parents I always had.”
