13 people thrown from boat on MississippiRED WING, Minn. – Thirteen boat passengers, including two children, were thrown overboard Sunday and into the Mississippi River when the boat they were riding in hit a wake from another boat near Red Wing.
Goodhue County authorities say on Monday that 11 people were taken to hospitals in Red Wing, Hastings and Woodbury, with mild to moderate injuries.
Witnesses told authorities the 45-foot passenger boat was going about 50 miles per hour near Lock and Dam No. 3. The driver turned sharply after hitting the wake from another boat, and all 13 passengers went over-board.
The initial investigation showed alcohol was not a factor.
