Woman recovers from being submerged in sinking carFARGO - Sara Gullickson's father says it's nothing short of a miracle.
Three weeks ago, Gullickson's car swerved off Interstate 94 and plunged into Hobart Lake west of Valley City. She was submerged for more than a half hour before divers pulled her from the water.
Now the 19-year-old from Spiritwood is ready to go home from a Fargo hospital.
Her father, Scott, says that before Sara lost consciousness, she managed to call her mother on her cell phone to tell her she was trapped in her sinking car.
Scott Gullickson says the extreme cold of the water may have helped his daughter by triggering an oxygen-conserving response that shut down all but the body's most critical functions.
Sara will undergo outpatient therapy. She's told her parents that all she wants to do is sleep in her own bed.
