Veterans to rally in support of workers' rightsVeterans from five wars will speak out today for workers’ rights in a noon rally at the Hjemkomst Center in Moorhead.
The event, announced by the Northern Plains United Labor Council, is in support of the proposed Employee Free Choice Act, whose backers say it would make it easier to form a union and whose critics argue is anti-democratic.
“When I signed my enlistment papers, my signature was my pledge to fight for freedom and the honor of my country,” said Rick Olek, a Vietnam veteran and Fargo letter carrier and union member.
He is among veterans who will express their support for workers to organize to bargain for “fair wages and just benefits,” according to the labor council.
