Davies High principal named
Jeff Schatz, currently principal at Central High School in Grand Forks, N.D., said returning to Fargo has been a goal for some time.
“We just felt this would be a great opportunity to go back home and work in a really good school district,” said Schatz, referring to himself and his wife, Gretchen.
The Fargo School District announced Monday that Schatz will be the first principal of Davies High, which is under construction and is scheduled to open in fall 2011.
Rick Buresh, Fargo superintendent of schools, said Schatz is well-respected in the state of North Dakota and comes to Fargo with a wealth of experience.
“He just has a lot to bring to our community and our school district. We have great expectations for his service,” Buresh said.
Schatz, who has worked in the Grand Forks School District for 21 years – the last 11 as head principal at Central High – will begin his new job July 1.
Schatz listed improved student access to advanced placement courses among his accomplishments.
He said another accomplishment was improving the school climate at Central High, which involved things such as creating intervention programs for at-risk students.
“It’s really a good school right now,” Schatz said. “A lot of good things have happened because of the work of a lot of teachers and just the whole community.”
