Pawlenty to cast line early this year

WHITE BEAR LAKE, Minn. - Gov. Tim Pawlenty will take to the water early on the 2009 Governor's Fishing Opener Saturday on White Bear Lake.

Pawlenty plans to hit the water at 3:30 a.m. - more than three hours before media and city and state officials are scheduled to push off from Tally's Dockside.

Spokesman Alex Carey says the early hour is "the best time to catch fish," and that Pawlenty wants to beat Lt. Gov. Carol Molnau in their fish-off.

Carey also says the proximity of White Bear Lake to St. Paul made the early start possible this year.

The governor and first lady Mary Pawlenty will go out with fishing host Dennis Merry in search of walleye.

Pawlenty will still return to shore for the official 6:45 a.m. sendoff from Tally's.
