SD man charged with trying to kill Minn. deputy

MANKATO - A 20-year-old college student from Sioux Falls, S.D., is being held in the Mankato jail on charges he tried to crash his car into a deputy sheriff's squad car.

Adam Lee Danielsen is charged with attempted murder, assault and driving while intoxicated, and is being held on $1 million bond. He's a student at Minnesota State University.

A prosecutor says if Blue Earth County Deputy Sheriff Rick Miller hadn't sped into a ditch to avoid a collision, Danielsen would have crashed his car into Miller's vehicle and likely killed them both.

The squad car was hit in the rear quarter panel. Danielsen's car came to rest in a farm field.
