Weekend Watch: Detroit Cobras
There’s nothing too original about the Detroit Cobras, and that’s what makes the band so appealing. For more than a decade the group has been digging deep into classic R&B records and spinning them into garage rock nuggets. Singer Rachel Nagy’s (pictured at far left) howl punctuates the simple rhythms while her partner in grime, guitarist Mary Ramirez (pictured, right), lays down some seriously fuzzy chops. It’s not retro and it’s not nostalgia, it’s just good old rock ’n’ soul rolled over. Amanda Standalone and the Pastry Shop Girls open this Saturday show at the Aquarium, 226 Broadway. In case you missed former Flat Duo Jet Dex Romweber two weeks ago, he’s back for this bill. Music starts at 10 p.m. with a $10 cover for this 21-and-older show. (701) 235-5913.
