Support the city; ‘yes’ on flood taxMany sincere thanks to the people of Fargo who stood up tall and staged a valiant fight against the largest flood in the history of our area. Particular sincere thanks go to Mayor Dennis Walaker for his decisive leadership, the City Commission and the city staff, from the city administrator to all city employees who did a magnificent job in this massive effort.
Also, many sincere thanks go to all residents, college and high school students, close and distant friends who rolled up their sleeves and fought the nasty rushing waters. It was an impressive union of many people that averted disastrous consequences.
Bravo and honor to all of you.
A very timely and decisive action is the decision of the City Commission to hold a special election for the residents of Fargo on June 30 to vote on a proposed one half cent sales tax for 20 years to pay for the cost of a permanent flood protection and levee system for Fargo. This proposal assures long-term growth of Fargo and lessens the fear and pain of another large-scale flood without interruption. This is a top priority for Fargo.
I encourage people to vote “yes” on this vital measure.
