Spiritwood woman hospitalized after crash into lakeVALLEY CITY, N.D. – A Spiritwood, N.D., woman was hospitalized Wednesday after a crash left her stuck in a lake for 30 minutes.
The 18-year-old, whose name was not released by the North Dakota Highway Patrol, was westbound on Interstate 94 about five miles west of Valley City when she swerved to avoid a goose about 3:30 p.m. The 2002 Pontiac Grand Am she was driving slid through the north ditch and into Hobart Lake.
The driver, who was wearing a seat belt, was unable to get out of the car until rescue divers from Valley City Rescue freed her. She was the only one in the car.
The woman was taken to Mercy Hospital in Valley City, and then transferred to Innovis Health in Fargo.
